Sale Alert! Sale Alert! Sale Alert!

Happy Valentine’s Day, everybody! And how do we express our love for you? By sending some shoe-love your way, that’s how!

Bluefly is having a President’s Day Sale starting today until Monday, 20% off mostly everything, and you have got, got, got to check their shoe selections. The choices are pretty fabulous and the prices quite nice, but wait, there’s more! I had to rub my eyes and double-check this, because OMG, these prices are not to be believed. Their Lucky Shop for the Ultimate Closet exclusive features deals you have to grab–or you’ll never forgive yourself.

First up, they have a variety of the rejuvenated  famous Kork-Ease platforms. Retailing for $165 and up, you can now get them in a variety of colors and sizes for $25 (that’s twenty-five, yup).

But the real savings come when you look at the Pedro Garcia fabulous collection of evening shoes. I don’t wear heels but when they only cost $50 as opposed to their regular price of $300, $425, and $425–I’m inclined to buy them just because they’re so pretty to look at:

Happy Valentine Day’s Shopping, shoe lovers!

Oscars Are Go!

Thanks to a timely resolution of the writers strike, the Oscars are on, not as a sadly truncated event like the Golden Globes were this year, but as a full-on show hosted by Jon Stewart, written by actual writers, and attended by (we hope) plenty of A-list actors in plenty of stunning clothes.

The Oscars is big news chez moi. It’s a bright spot in the doldrums of blah winter weather, and therefore, I’m quite a pleased puppy that it’s happening again. What can we expect on the red carpet? Well, that’s half the fun, isn’t it? Not knowing what to expect.

But here’s a brief survey of what we’ve seen shoe-wise on some recent red carpets here and there.

Marion Cotillard paired a great pair of elegant silver sandals with this Chanel Haute Couture outfit that I personally happen to love (though the Fug Girls disagree).

Cotillard BAFTAs

Interestingly enough, this is the same outfit that Joe Zee, creative director of Elle magazine, picks as his suggestion of what Charlotte Gainsbourg should wear to the Oscars.

No one will argue with the fact that Marion Cotillard is willing to take some risks on the red carpet. She never looks like anyone else, and that works in her favor (see Shoesense bestowing the Best Dressed award on her at the SAG Awards). And it extends to the shoes, too. Check out this flapper-esque number with the excellent platforms from the Critics Choice Awards. Brava!

Cotillard Nina Ricci Critics Choice

In non-Cotillard red carpet shoes, Rebecca Gayheart also used the silver strappy sandal to nice effect at the Madonna/Gucci UN Benefit.  Rihanna did it at the Grammy’s (and while her dress does nothing for me–no surprise there, it’s by Zac Posen– the shoes are lovely, and she gets 10 extra points for the bright orange nail polish)

You’ve got your red carpet staple Louboutins, as classily demonstrated by Michelle Pfeiffer at the SAG Awards.

Michelle Pfeiffer SAGs

And, of course, there’s the usual profusion of sparkly gold numbers, as seen on Fergie at the Grammy’s.

Calista Flockhart went this route, too, at the Art of Elysium 10th Anniversary Gala.

And so did Nina Garcia, Elle’s fashion director and Project Runway judge, at the Madonna/Gucci benefit.

For comfort on the red carpet, I’d have to give my award to Leslie Feist at the Critics Choice Awards, although I can’t say the style of those gold pumps is doing much for me.

On the other hand, the style of Tilda Swinton’s heels at the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Annual Awards Gala is to die for. These most definitely take the prize for best red carpet shoes of recent months, even though that carpet looks like it’s not so much red.

So, I will wait with baited breath to see what outfits and shoes are trotted out on the Oscar red carpet. No one has the excuse of the writers strike to dress somberly anymore, so bring on the glitz!

Dollsome Shoes for Valentine’s Day

ELLE has some excellent suggestions for  some tasty treats of the sexy shoe variety just in time for Valentine’s Day.  My favorites (for the pure fantasy, of course) are these Viktor & Rolf lace boots, which are a variant on the ones we saw in the Spring 08 ready-to-wear runway show in Paris last October.  If you’d like these, check out select Bloomingdale’s stores.  But be ready to shell out $950 for em.

Viktor & Rolf lace boots

Are you digging the peep-toe oxford look that’s showing up everywhere?  Then work it into your Valentine’s wardrobe with these pretty satin Diego Dolcini pumps ($820 at Jeffrey in NYC and Atlanta).

Diego Dolcini satin peep toe

For a classic ladylike Louboutin, you can’t go wrong with this pretty platform with gathered crepe that’s just like that pretty nightie you were thinking about buying to treat yourself (and quite possibly your “someone special”).  This one’s $875 at Neiman Marcus.

Need something in the more affordable range?  Want something that’s a little more Vargas girl “fun ‘n flirty” than “sexy diva”?  Then try these fun red Kaylie platforms from Zinc (only $73 at Zappos).

And if you’re after a bit of a bondage edge (rrrrrowr) with a girly twist, you could go for these pink lace and buckle numbers from Be&D, which’ll set you back $575 at Shooz in Denver.

Or, of course, you could bypass all of that and take a shot at winning the Glory Chen Yan pump that’s the prize of our current giveaway.  You’ve only got a day left to enter your name, and then this pretty in pink pump with the heart-shaped applique could be yours in honor of St. Valentine and loved ones everywhere.

Our Chance to Help Our Fellow Americans with Shoes

Soles4Souls is one of those admirable organizations determined to change the world, “one pair at a time.” These days, they remind us that it’s not just poor people in third world countries that need our help–but also our fellow Americans, in the wake of the recent tornado devastations.

You can help Soles4Souls reach out to hurting people in the region by donating new or gently worn shoes, cash, or volunteering with the shoe charity in collecting shoes to send to people in need.

People and companies interested in donating can email info@soles4souls.org, call the hotline at 1-866-521-7463, or visit www.giveshoes.org for more information.

Payless at NY Fashion Week Fall 2008

The sun has set on NY Fall ‘08 Fashion Week and most of us have already moved onto London Fashion week. However, I was finally able to secure detailed looks from Payless on the runway. So if you’ll bare with me, hopefully this post is better late than never.

For NY fall fashion week, there were three runways which featured Payless designer shoes at very affordable prices (nothing over $45!) - Alice + Olivia, Abaeté, and Lela Rose. Shall we have a look?

The Alice + Olivia for Payless line featured ‘60s pop colors and high shine with a theme of “Breakfast in Bed”. Of course, if I had those peep toe gray zipper booties, I would be outside showing them off rather than indoors or in bed.

If Victoria is looking for the white bootie to go with her Dries Van Noten trainers, these white boot wedges from Alice + Olivia would work for her.

These Alice + Olivia gray booties are cute, but what I’m really interested in are the yellow booties in the background. I would love to wear those on a rainy day.

Continuing the gray booties look….At Abaeté, wearable gray shoes sashayed down the runway on dresses, suits, everything you can think of. Now, I wouldn’t think these gray pleated ankle boot would work well accessoried on dresses, but they really do!

And finally, over at Lela Rose for Payless, the fall line featured Rose’s signature use of rich fabrics on shoes affixed with satin bows for a girly and sophisticated look.

Stubbs & Wootton Broken Heart Slipper

During Valentine’s week, not everyone has someone to show and share their love with. I know I’m experienced many Valentine’s Day alone and my mood didn’t improve when I was inundated with excessive displays of hearts, flowers, and cupids at every turn. So for the single gal, who has had her heart broken, I feel your pain and I dedicate this post (and shoe) to you.

Relationships are like glass. Sometimes it’s better to leave them broken than try to hurt yourself putting it back together. - Anonymous

Friday Shoe History Corner: Spring-O-Later

Herbert Levine spring-o-lators, circa 1956-57.

Beth Levine was the designer for shoe label Herbert Levine (her husband). She created the spring-o-lator after observing a pair of men’s boots that came with an elastic liner which helped prevent the foot from slipping. To prove the spring-o-lator worked on mules, she ran across a hotel lobby during a major convention to show disbelievers that the elastic would help keep the feet in place.

Acne Home Remedies And Monstrous Myths Posted By : Davion Wong

Scientific advances have not managed to shake various myths from the minds of people. The pervasiveness of these myths even covers how people understand acne and how people accept acne home remedies. Some of these myths are in relation to medication from drugstores, while some are in relation to other health issues.Acne Home Remedies And Monstrous Myths Posted By : Davion Wong, http://www.approvedarticles.com/Article/Acne-Home-Remedies-And-Monstrous-Myths/44654
